The Restrictions All persons other than the following are required to submit details of all proposed property acquisitions to the Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB): Australian Citizens Permanent Residents Approved Migrants Foreign Nationals with an entitlement to take up or retain permanent residence. e.g. New Zealand Citizens
Allowable Acquisitions Foreign interests may acquire apartments, townhouses, land and house packages in new approved developments, during construction or while the dwelling is new and unused. Such acquisitions may be retained for personal use, rented, or sold in due course.
Australian Citizens with Foreign Spouses Such applications are usually approved as a matter of course.
